About IMAM

The IMAM Congress is organized by the International Maritime Association of the Mediterranean (IMAM). Over the years, IMAM has become one of the major international conferences on the topics of maritime engineering and marine technology. The Congress has more than forty-five years’ history. The first Congress was held in Istanbul in 1978 and since then it is regularly organized by a country located close to the Mediterranean basin.

The International Maritime Association of the Mediterranean is a voluntary organization that was initially established in 1974 by maritime institutions from six East Mediterranean countries (Bulgaria, Egypt, Greece, Italy, Turkey and Yugoslavia). Progressively it was enlarged to include countries from West Mediterranean as well as other neighbouring countries. Until the IMAM ’90 Congress held in Athens, the Association’s acronym was IMAEM (International Maritime Association of East Mediterranean), thereafter it was changed to IMAM (International Maritime Association of Mediterranean), dropping the reference to the eastern part of the basin.

IMAM is proud of its about 50-years history committed to the enhancement and dissemination of technical knowledge related to the design, construction and operation of ships and other marine structures. The focus of the Association is on the generation of novel solutions for improving maritime transport as well as on the better exploitation of sea resources in the Mediterranean area, in line with the principles of sustainable growth. More information about the International Maritime Association of the Mediterranean can be obtained from its home page (http://www.imamhomepage.org/about.aspx).
